The Selected Poetry of Vicente Huidobro

Vicente Huidobro has been on my to-read list for quite some time. Maybe it was a timing issue, or perhaps I wasn't quite ready to embrace his words. I've been thinking a lot about innovation of late, looking to enhance what we have to make a better future; wondering if it's even possible. I would classify Huidobro as an innovator. Similar to Rimbaud, he was a visionary, someone who elevated poetry into the clouds of what it could be.

This collection contains a timeline of Huidobro's life and output; from the introduction to his work, his aesthetic theory on Creationism, a manifesto, and a selection of work from his early years to late stages. I didn't know much about Huidobro's poetry, but it makes sense that I'd be drawn to it given his association with the French literary scene and his own experimental/aesthetic tendencies. It was interesting to learn about his poetic theory on Creationism, creating new realities for poetry through language. This edition is dual-language, and contains poems written in both French and Spanish, with multiple English translators. I found it to be a great starting point for engaging with Huidobro's place in literary history.
